11. In meetings, losing track of time

“I didn’t see the time go by.”
You know that expression. You have no doubt used it yourself, after a film, after an evening out (even a sober one), perhaps even after a meeting.
Have you ever asked yourself: “What were the conditions that made you not see the time go by?”.
This refers to the concept of FLOW.
A concept from positive psychology that we don’t talk about often enough. My hypothesis is that the pronunciation of the name of its creator, Mihaly CSIKSZENTMIHALYI, who passed away a few weeks ago, has not made it easy to promote.
You can discover his TED talkor read this article from a climbing magazine which explains the concept in a few sentences.
In short, you want to live a Flow experience.
Focus and commit yourself to a task at the very edge of your abilities.
You will not see the time go by, especially if you take the time at the end of the task to check that the expected result has been achieved.
It also works in everyday life.
When you are preparing a blanquette de veau.
When you are decorating the Christmas tree.
When you are doing a sudoku.
Does that ring a bell?
In a meeting, if you mobilise the group so that everyone can give their best, you will offer participants the opportunity to experience that feeling of FLOW.
In the case of individual Flow, the individual strengthens their self-confidence.
In the case of collective Flow, the group strengthens its confidence in itself and in its ability to move mountains.
Design and run your meetings as Collective Flow experiences, making sure you use the best of each person in the service of a shared objective.
