How do you capture diversity in meetings?

Translated from the French original.

Just yesterday I was facilitating the kick-off meeting of a working group.

Before announcing (reading out) the objective I had prepared, I suggested a round-robin with a simple question: “what will make you say that this kick-off meeting was a success?”

I listened closely to the four answers, all different: leaving with enthusiasm, being aligned on the project’s objective, having the dates for the next meetings, or having given the project a name.

In a few words I was able to capture a little of each person’s preferences, and realise how the members’ diversity was going to give the group its power.

It is putting difference into “raisonnance” that brings the power.

And you?

How do you use meetings to capture the differences within a group?
